David Rosengarten loves the books by Alain Ducasse, the superstar of the food world. He has published about a dozen cookbooks over the past few years and all are unique and wonderful. These are David's favorites. Any would be perfect for the foodie on your gift list:

  • The Provence of Alain Ducasse by Alain Ducasse (Assouline, 2001): This is David's favorite of all. An in-depth guide to traveling in southern France that features markets, olive oil mills, gardens, aperitifs, and so on. An incredible reference and a wonderful read.

  • Harvesting Excellence by Alain Ducasse (Assouline, 2000): A coffee table book and paean to the best ingredients in America. No recipes, but a great read.

  • L'Atelier of Alain Ducasse: The Artistry of a Master Chef and His Protégés by Alain Ducasse and Patricia Wells (John Wiley & Sons, 2000): This book, filled with photos, is one to cook with. It features dishes created by five great chefs using ingredients selected by Mr. Ducasse.
