Tim Richardson, author of Sweets: A History of Candy says look for these brands (all imports) of licorice:

  • Bassett's Licorice Allsorts from England
  • Panda, the salty but delicious licorice from Finland
  • Anything from the Dutch: Boerderiij Drops shaped like farm animals, Katjes shaped like cats and with a slight ginger flavor, and Haring Drops shaped like herring and very salty.
