Vanilla Ice Cream Tasting
with Al Sicherman and Lynne
August 7, 1999

Grocery Guru Al Sicherman had Lynne taste and critique three readily available brands of vanilla ice cream. The surprising winner was Edy's. Here's what Lynne sampled, along with her remarks:

Edy's (Dreyer's in the East) Grand Ice Cream, French Vanilla at $5.00 for 1/2 gallon:
"Has flecks of vanilla bean, tastes like old-fashioned custard, but the texture is a bit grainy."

Ben & Jerry's World's Best Vanilla at $3.00 a pint:
     "Tastes like chemicals."

Häagen Dazs Vanilla at $3.00 a pint:
    "Nice texture, tastes phony."
