Hoppin John's This culinary Web site and mail-order business grew out of the internationally renowned Charleston, South Carolina bookstore, Hoppin' John's, which was owned and operated from 1986 until 1999 by John Martin Taylor. John is recognized as the definitive expert on the South Carolina lowcountry. He is the author of Hoppin' John's Lowcountry Cooking (1992, reissued 2000), The New Southern Cook (1995), Hoppin' John's Charleston's Beaufort & Savannah (1997), and The Fearless Frying Cookbook (1997).
