A Nanosecond Feast

Cash in right now. At this moment there's a little window of opportunity - a small collection of foods that shine in their prime for only a handful of weeks. In another nanosecond after that, they'll be history. Look for the plumpest salmon of the year, new peas that are all sugar and shyness, strawberries, and potatoes so sweet and plush you'd think they were just plucked. Most likely they were.

Get thee to the farmer's market. No stores for right now. Get outside. Get food at its best. Get to the farmers.

Forget frozen. Forget instant. Forget packaged.

Don't let anything separate you and the family from the flash dance Mother Nature's doing right now. She's packed so much taste into every fresh food that all you have to do is gather, revel, and cook as simply as possible.

"Mom's" done all the work. We get all the fun.

Farmer's markets are like wild Technicolor movies for the young ones. The sights, the smells, the tastes, and all the talk they can share. Firsthand they'll learn from farmers about the great stuff that grows in their part of the world. But move fast. We're tipping slowly into summer. In a nanosecond spring'll be history.
