Tips for Checking Out An Espresso Bar
by Corby Kummer
January 30, 1999
Coffee expert Corby Kummer says it the small details that matter in a great cup of espresso. When you go into a coffee bar look around for these signs that the establishment knows what they're doing and care about serving you the best:
1. The coffee beans should not be stored in a clear container.
2. A coffee grinder should be next to the espresso machine. If they are using pre-ground coffee from bags it's not a good sign. Ground coffee goes stale very quickly.
3. Barristas should be rinsing the espresso insert with hot water between each coffee.
4. Cups should be hot!
