Second Labels
April 8, 2006

Listen to this feature (How to listen)

Our master of the superb wine bargain, Joshua Wesson, says excellent values are to be found when you look to the second labels from the great world-class producers. From Bordeaux, Josh recommends these:

  • Carruades de Lafite from Château LaFite Rothschild. This wonderful second label sells for about $75, a steal compared to the 1998 Château Lafite for around $400.

  • Château Blason d' Issan from Château d' Issan is around $25. Josh says he prefers it to the latter for $80 to $90.

  • On the sweeter side, Clos Labere Sauterne from Château Rieussec is about $20, or one-third the price as a second label.
