May 12, 2007

Listen to this feature (How to listen)

Ray Isle, Senior Wine Editor for Food & Wine magazine, offers these picks of good quality wines at low prices. They are from article by Richard Nalley in the February 2007 issue of the magazine.

  • 2006 Santa Isabel Torrontés: Santa Isabel is a lower-priced line from Argentina's respected Bodegas Nieto Senetiner. This white is not aged in oak to preserve its crisp, spicy mix of anise, peach and tropical fruit. $7.

  • 2004 Veramonte Merlot Reserva: This supple, juicy Merlot gets structure from a portion of Cabernet. From Chile's Huneeus family and California's Napa Valley (Quintessa). $10.

  • 2005 D'Arenberg The Stump Jump: This red from maverick Australian winemaker Chester Osborn is a blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre. Its aroma and flavor are reminiscent of crushed dark berries. $10.
