Vya Extra-Dry Vermouth
July 15, 2000

Vermouth is fortified wine made with botanicals. The vermouth category began some 200 years ago with the commercialization of the first vermouth in the sweet red Italian style by Carpano. Some 20 years later, Joseph Noilly introduced French dry white vermouth. Historically, vermouth was based on the medicinal plant wormwood, which is no longer used. The essential feature of modern vermouth, compared to other aromatized wines, is that it is flavored with a larger number of different plants. A good vermouth should be complex with no single botanical predominating.

Vya is a new sort of vermouth, fresh and vibrant, producing an exceedingly smooth, pleasant aromatic sensory experience. It is made in both white extra-dry and red sweet styles. The extra-dry is so delicious it can be enjoyed straight, as a fine white wine, as well as in ways vermouth is customarily used. Serve Vya in stemmed glassware as an accompaniment to appetizers, especially those which are salty, such as olives or caviar. The red sweet vermouth is best used as a delicious aperitif, served on the rocks or as a cocktail mixer.
