Belgian White Beers
July 20, 2002
Listen to this feature (How to listen)
Steven Beaumont, author of The Premium Beer Drinker's Guide, says a sultry summer afternoon is the perfect time for an icy-cold Belgian white beer. These light effervescent beers, made from a combination of barley and unmalted wheat, have an added flavor kick from coriander and orange peel. Steven says give these a try:
Hoegaarden: from Belgium, this beer is fruiter than some with notable orange flavors.
Blanche de Chamblis: a spicy beer with more pronounced coriander flavor from an area outside Montreal.
Whirlwind Wit Beer: from Victory Brewing in Pennsylvania.
Sunshine Wheat Beer: from New Belgium Brewing Co. in Fort Collins, Colorado.
