For fans of Indian food, Restaurant Amma, located in the East 50's, is a real find. It has little to do with the food you get in most Indian restaurants. Tradition is respected, but the take is fresh, light and fascinating in the hands of the talented Suvir Saran and Hemat Mathur.
Try the tasting menu - one is vegetarian, the other is not - and don't miss talking with the wine steward. With entrees running $12 to $28 (the eight-course tasting menu is $50), it is not inexpensive, but it is unforgettable.
