When the Sterns were visiting western Maryland, they stumbled upon Bender's, a tiny family restaurant with only four or five booths, located in the old York Hotel in Cumberland. Bender's serves Appalachian fare, lots of "innards" are featured, and nothing is priced over $4. Specialties include liver pudding and wonderful crisp-fried scrapple.
