New Mexican Soul Food

If you constantly travel the country looking for good food off the beaten path as Jane and Michael Stern do, it figures that occasionally you'll get lost. When it happened to the Sterns in Texas, they happily stumbled onto the Canutillo Tortilla Factory, located several miles outside El Paso. The Tortilla Factory is the only diner in town, but their wonderful New Mexican Soul Food is why there's always a line. Expect to wait. The Sterns love the flautas, seasoned chicken or beef rolled in a tortilla and deep fried. In case you get too exuberant chowing down on your flautas, there's a laundromat next door.
