Chapel Hill, NC: Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen
Date
Listen to this feature (How to listen)
North Carolina cooks do two things especially well: fry chicken and make biscuits. It's no exception at the Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen, a small drive-through joint located on the outskirts of Chapel Hill.
Besides the great country ham biscuit (Jane's favorite with a big glass of icy cold sweet tea), you can choose from bacon and egg, sausage, pork tenderloin and the stellar fried chicken biscuit. White meat chicken is coated with a highly seasoned breading then dropped into hot oil. It emerges with a luscious, thin, crispy crust enclosing the juicy meat. This piece of deliciousness is then sandwiched into an extra-large, rich, fluffy buttermilk biscuit.
Expect to get your order at the drive-through window and eat it somewhere else. The little 1950's style eatery has no indoor seating and a very limited parking area.
