If it's good old Texas-style barbecue you're after, the Sterns say you'll find it in Lockhart. This hill-country town has more barbecue per capita than any place in the United States. Texas barbecue is all beef and served sans sauce, so the smoky hickory wood flavor comes through. At Kreuz's Market, Black's or Smitty's, you buy barbecue by the pound, and it comes with a couple slices of white bread and a beer.
