Onion Burgers at Johnnie's Grill
September 16, 2000
When you're driving along Route 66 near El Reno, Oklahoma and are suddenly overcome by the tantalizing aroma of sizzling burgers and onions you'll know Johnnie's Grill is nearby. The chef says the wonderful flavor of Johnnie's burgers comes from the onions pressed into the 81% lean ground beef they use.
El Reno must be hamburger heaven. When the Sterns were there they also discovered what might be the world's largest hamburger. The annual festival was in full swing and to celebrate the local folks made a burger weighing in at 750 pounds! To make this whopper, they used 250 pounds of meat, 150 pounds of onions and a 350-pound bun. And 10 gallons of pickles.
