Dunbar's Creole Cooking, located near Tulane University in New Orleans, looks like nothing outside—a sign of greatness in New Orleans—but inside this simple lunchroom-style café you'll find a delightful staff of folks serving up wonderful Creole soul food. The Sterns like the Shrimp Boat, a foot-and-a-half-long loaf of French bread scooped out and filled with about three pounds of fresh, perfectly fried shrimp. It's billed as a sandwich but it's impossible to eat it as such. If shrimp isn't your thing, try the fried chicken with red beans and rice. Whatever you choose, save room for the bread pudding.
